Our Program

At Horizons Childhood Learning Centres we offer four distinct age appropriate programs. Using the principles of fun, play and interaction our programmes are designed to foster each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, creative and physical development.

Each of our rooms is a hive of activity as children enjoy and explore their environment. This results from our qualified staff developing a programme based on a variety of direct observations of the individual interests and strengths of each child. This individual approach ensures children are reaching their developmental milestones and developing a healthy attitude towards learning.

Babies Room

6 – 18 months

This is such an important time in a baby’s life to build attachments and gain trust, which will enable them to form connections in future years. At Horizons Childhood Learning Centres, we provide the safe, stimulating and loving environment that every baby needs.

We aim to be an extension of the home environment in order to continue routines and allow for a smooth transition.

The needs of babies are continuously changing as they grow and develop, which is why we place importance on communicating closely with families throughout the journey.

 Babies curriculum

Babies need time to develop connections and emotional security.

The program we run in our babies room is one that focuses on their first connections through highly interactive experiences in a relaxed and patient environment.

Babies are learning all the time, so both routine and playtime provide opportunities to learn and grow.

This is also an important time in the development of language and baby’s first words, which we encourage through a fun program of songs, rhymes and conversations.

Toddlers Room

18 months – 3 years

Children at this age are great communicators and are learning about themselves more and more each day. This growing sense of self is a magical experience that is supported by strong relationships and experiences with our educators.

During this time of self-discovery children will begin to understand their likes and dislikes, becoming more aware of their sense of agency.

Building on this emerging confidence through the exploration of language and vocabulary, we provide plenty of opportunities for children to make their own decisions throughout the day.

Toddler curriculum

All activities and experiences in the Toddler room have been carefully designed to be both age and developmentally appropriate.

The program is based on each child’s interests, their family input, and intentional teaching.

This is a time where toddlers are also starting to understand their feelings and learning to self-regulate. Our educators are very sensitive to this area of personal development and are understanding, supportive and encouraging of positive behaviours.

Through art, singing, games, reading and dancing activities, our Toddler curriculum focuses on strengthening the following skills:

  • Language
  • Cognitive development
  • Physical and self-care skills (early personal hygiene skills, feeding skills, independent dressing, managing belongings)

Kindy Room

3 – 5 years

A time to build social skills and develop friendships, Kindy room activities allow the children to further explore and understand their feelings.

Our educators cover a variety of topics that develop the key foundational skills that will help give children the best start at school.

Our aim is to foster a curiosity and passion for learning, develop and promote social skills, and cultivate real-life skills in a range of contexts.

We place a strong emphasis on documenting and displaying each child’s growth and development in a variety of formats, including photographs, pictures/drawings, artwork and transcripts.

Kindy curriculum

In the Kindy room, we adopt a Reggio Emilia approach within our pedagogy that values the child as a strong, capable and unique individual. We allow the children to lead with their interests and provide learning experiences that will allow risk-taking. We offer them the opportunity to explore the natural world and their place within it.

Catering to the needs of the children and the community, we ensure all learning that takes place is relevant to their context and environment.

Our Kindy curriculum focuses on strengthening the following skills:

  • Early numeracy
  • Early literacy including pre-writing, reading and phonemic awareness
  • Social skills
  • Health and physical education
  • The Arts
  • Science

Before and after school programme

At Horizons Childhood Learning Centres our school aged children (5-12 years) are cared for either in our own facility, or within the grounds of local schools, in a comprehensive before and after school programme.

Our before school programme provides breakfast where required, a wide range of quiet activities and transport to within school grounds.

The after school programme includes transport from school to our centre (where the programme is not held within school grounds), afternoon tea and a range of indoor and outdoor activities including crafts, games and music. Quiet time is set aside for homework and children are provided with access to supervised computer use where possible.
